FOUR DIFFERENT USERS TALK ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE WITH BORROWING JEWELLERY

Secretariat director Margit Vildlyng, KVINFO

Which event urged you to borrow a piece of jewellery from the Danish Arts Foundation? I borrowed the piece of jewellery on the occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s Garden Party on the 19th of June 2012. I was invited on account of my position as department manager of KVINFO’s mentor network.

What was your role at the event?I was representing the mentor network of KVINFO, which is part of “voluntary Denmark”.

Which piece of jewellery did you borrow? I borrowed a very beautiful necklace, made of silver leafs and a single gold leaf. It is an artwork in itself. It is made by the artist Kasia Gasparski in 1995.

Why do you borrow jewellery from the collection of the Danish Arts Foundation? I borrowed the piece of jewellery from the collection of the Danish Arts Foundation, because it offers an extraordinary opportunity for wearing a unique and beautiful piece of jewellery – without costs – while at the same time representing Danish jewellery design at its best. And people really noticed it![[missing key: jqa-sec1-a4b]]

Which kind of arrangements do you borrow jewellery for? I would only borrow the jewellery in connection with work-related or official events.

Danish politician Marianne Jelved

Which event urged you to borrow a piece of jewellery from the Danish Arts Foundation? I borrowed the jewellery in connection with an official trip to the United States of America where I participated in two full dress arrangements. The arrangements were related to the Nordic Cool 2013 in Washington and the Oscars respectively.

What was your role at the event? As the Minister of Culture, I represented Denmark at both of the events.

Which piece of jewellery did you borrow? I borrowed two necklaces. Mette Vivelsted's Zukiyaki perlekæde and Yvonne by Claus Bjerring.

Why did you choose to apply for a lending of jewellery from the Danish Arts Foundation? I had actually borrowed jewellery from the Foundation once before for another official arrangement, which was broadcasted on live television. After the show, some people addressed me to ask me where I had bought my beautiful necklace (this necklace was made in several different versions), and I am very fond of it still. The trip to the United States was very special and prompted me to wear something particularly elegant. In addition, I wanted to wear something Danish, since many people in the States are interested in Nordic art and culture. This is something I think we should be proud of. The lending arrangement enabled me to wear something very special, while supporting and promoting Danish jewellery design.

Regarding your position as Minister of Culture, do you have any thoughts on how to make use of the arrangement in the future?I will definitely make use of the arrangement again. It gives me the opportunity to wear different kinds of jewellery for the various arrangements I participate in as a representative of Danish culture. At the same time, I take part in supporting and promoting Danish art.

Danish author Josefine Klougart

Which event urged you to borrow a piece of jewellery from the Danish Arts Foundation? I borrowed the same piece of jewellery for two separate events. The first one was a reading for the literary magazine Fjords under AWP, a great literature festival held in Boston. The second one was a reading at Nordic Culture Point in Helsinki, in connection with the nomination of my book “Èn af os sover” for the Nordic Council Literature Prize.

What was your role at the event? I had to do a reading of my book at both events.

Which piece of jewellery did you borrow? Jytte Kløve's "Bådarmbånd".

Regarding your position as a writer, do you have any thoughts on how to make use of the arrangement in the future?I consider it a great opportunity to bring focus on Danish arts and crafts, especially when the context is about representing Danish culture abroad in the first place. When I heard about the arrangement, I thought to myself that it was a nice idea, something I would like to try out myself.

Do you expect to make use of the arrangement again? That is quite possible!

Costumier Kristina Kühl

Which event urged you to borrow a piece of jewellery from the Danish Arts Foundation? I borrowed the jewellery in connection with the shooting of a music video with the Danish band Kashmir.

What was your role at the event? As a costumier, my role is to find clothes etc. for everyone who takes part in the video.

Which piece of jewellery did you borrow? I borrowed some pretty outré pieces of jewellery. They fitted perfectly into the rather peculiar universe we were building up around the song. Among others, I borrowed the necklaces The Baroness by Halssmykke by Anette Kræn.

Why do you borrow jewellery from the collection of the Danish Arts Foundation? I have been working as costumier on many low budget films, often related to the National Film School of Denmark and the Film Workshop (Filmværkstedet), and it is always a bit of problem to find and borrow jewellery for the productions. The Danish Arts Foundation has made that process easier for me. I go the website and choose what I like, it is as simple as that.

Do you expect to make use of the arrangement again?I am definitely planning to borrow jewellery again. The many different pieces grant me the opportunity to think bigger, and it really widens my artistic perspective on the universes I am trying to create in the various productions.
