On borrowing jewellery

/
IN CONNECTION WITH SPECIAL OCCASIONS IN DENMARK OR ABROAD – FOR EXAMPLE, PUBLIC EVENTS, PREMIERES, OPENINGS, ETC., DANISH CITIZENS MAY APPLY TO BORROW A PIECE OF JEWELLERY FROM THE UNIQUE COLLECTION OF THE DANISH ARTS FOUNDATION.

Why we lend jewellery

The Danish Arts Foundation’s Crafts and Design Committee purchases jewellery from the country’s best jewellery designers on a running basis. This is done, in part, to support living artists and, in part, to provide Danes with an opportunity to become acquainted with jewellery of a high artistic quality.

Since 2007, the Foundation has loaned jewellery to Danes holding, participating in, or having a leading or active role in special events of a public, official, or artistic nature. The hope is that this measure will acquaint more people with Danish jewellery design.

Who may borrow jewellery?

  • Members of the Danish Parliament, members of regional or city councils, ministers, etc., who are to participate in an official event.
  • Other persons who have an active role at a public or official event.
  • Artists who are to hold or participate in an opening, concert, reading, or premiere, etc.

For which kind of events can you borrow jewelleries?

Jewellery may be borrowed for official occasions in Denmark, Western Europe, North America or Australia. Official occasions may be, for example, public events, celebrations, anniversaries, annual conferences, award ceremonies, premieres, etc.

In January 2013, the Foundation’s Crafts and Design Committee also made the jewellery available for film productions.

Would you like to borrow a piece of jewellery?

Before you may borrow a piece of jewellery, you must register as a borrower by filling out the loan application form. Then, you may apply to borrow a particular piece of jewellery.
Once the loan application has been accepted, you will be contacted and arrangements will be made for you to pick up the jewellery at Designmuseum Danmark in Copenhagen. If you reside outside Copenhagen, you may have the jewellery sent to you by post.

Due to the value of the jewellery, the Danish Arts Foundation makes the following reservations:

  • The jewellery may only be borrowed for events that take place in Denmark, Western Europe, North America or Australia.
  • Some jewellery may not be sent by post but must be picked up personally at Designmuseum Danmark. These pieces are indicated with a B in the description of the jewellery.
  • Some jewellery is so fragile that it may no longer be loaned. These pieces are indicated with a C in the description of the jewellery.

Please note that the processing time for an application to be registered as a borrower may take up to 14 days. Subsequent processing will take approximately 5 days.

INSURANCE

When you borrow a piece of jewellery, it is covered by the Danish Arts Foundation’s insurance, which covers fire, theft, loss, and damage. However, the following reservations are made:

  • For insurance reasons, the jewellery may only be loaned to Danes who are to participate in special events that take place in Denmark, Western Europe, North America or Australia.
  • A borrower may only borrow jewellery up to a total value of DKK 50,000 at a time.
  • The loan period may not exceed 2 months per loan. In the event this deadline is exceeded, the Danish Arts Foundation’s insurance will no longer cover the loan.
  • The insurance does not cover dishonesty respecting the loan, the loan of the jewellery to anyone other than the approved applicant, or the unexplained or inexplicable loss of the jewellery.
