Art makes a difference

Ever since 1954, the Danish Arts Foundation has worked with art in public spaces, lending out art and entering into collaborative art projects – for example at hospitals, schools, city settings and parks.

Our objective is the same today as it was sixty years ago: to give everyone in Denmark – including children, the young, the old, the sick and the criminal – the opportunity to experience quality art, design and crafts right where they live and work.

About the Danish Arts Foundation

The Danish Arts Foundation is Denmark’s largest foundation for the arts. Our objective is to bring high-quality art to people throughout the country. We do this in many ways, for example by collaborating with local institutions on realising larger works, lending out art and design pieces and by offering advice and consultancy services.

Today, the Danish Arts Foundation has more than 13,000 works of art placed at 2,300 different locations across all of Denmark. From playgrounds, city squares and metro stations to high schools, hospitals and prisons.

Buying art to lend

Every year, the Danish Arts Foundation’s Committee for Visual Arts Project Funding and Committee for Crafts and Design Project Funding acquire approximately 200 works which are then distributed among the institutions who apply for loans.

All works acquired must be of high artistic merit and value. Our broad acquisition strategy ensures that all types of works and modes of expression are accommodated.
